Check out this great ministry that will be airing commercials in the Arc...
Youth group advice please!
Hey guys!
I miss everyone. I wish I could've gotten on this forum sooner. I hope every one is doing great.
Listen, we are wanting to try some new stuff at our youth group. If anyone has any ideas or if everyone could tell me what they love most about their youth group (in detail) that would be so awesome!
I believe the church in Chesterfield the above message is referring to is my youth group, Incarnate Word.
It's great because of the variety of things we do.
Every Wednesday Night--prayer group. We begin with Praise & Worship, then mellow down to deep prayer with Christ. Then follows one of two things: Witness or Gospel (We alternate weeks.) Witnessing entails a teen giving a talk on a topic of choice (faith life, struggles, self esteem, family problems, angels, etc). Gospel is when a teen reads the Gospel passage for the upcoming Sunday aloud, pauses, then reads again. Then we have group reflection, where anyone can contribute to how the Gospel applies to them. After either Witness or Gospel, we break off into small group discussion and prayer, then close with group prayer (singing Hail Mary and Ave Maria).
The First Wednesday of the Month--Encounter! My favorite. Very similary to XLT. The whole parish gathers in the chapel for Praise & Worship, a speaker, and adoration. It rocks!
Every Sunday Night 6pm--Life Teen Mass. During announcements, all new high school teens are invited up to the altar to introduce themselves.
After Mass--Life Night. Evening of skits, talks, and other activites to bring the Gospel to life.
During the summer we play softball every Tuesday, and soccer every Thursday. We host many retreats throughout the year. Some for the whole youth group, others for just Juniors and Seniors. We make float trips, ski trips, attend Christpower and Steubenville, and have an annual banquet in February.
I know this was very lengthy, but I hope it helped! Come check us out at Incarnate if you'd like! :-)
Yep, it actually was incarnate word that I was talking about. When we had problems with ICD when I was still in high school I felt the need to go explore other youth groups. It allowed me to bring ideas back to ICD and also see what else was out there.

Thanks guys! This is good stuff. Keep it coming.
This is Michelle for St. Ferdiand youth group, we are also looking for some ideas for our youth group. Right now we are still going through a transfer from being a social group into a youth group. If anyone has any great ideas on how to get the ball rolling please email me at hwpridette04@yahoo.com. Thanks
I'm representing the St. Clement Youth Group! Something that we always do is have some crazy activity before we begin our life nights. The activity ties into the topic of the night. It lets people get a little crazy and more comfortable. We also have prayer nights that are different every week. One week its just prayer. Another week it could be In the House in the Band (Praise and worship, but we get to play the instruments with Karl Z). Another week it could be a Service night! Variety is the key. Having the same thing over and over each and every week is dull. Also, have food and lots of it! :D

Well, I have a few suggestions since i'm never around at ICD anymore. The coolest part of any youth group I've ever been to was at a church in Chesterfield...after their youth mass they hold this teen night type thing. The cool part about this youth group was that every night was focused on a passage from the bible...the games, the skits, the talks. It helps teens especially understand the bible and be encouraged to actually read the bible. There skits were definatly the coolest. Filled with costumes props and all.
Another suggestion, Newman Center at Truman, BSU, and CCF get together once a week for Damascus Road which is basically a night for people of multiple denominations to get together and voice their opinions. The cool part about Damascus is they use current "pop" icons/items to learn. For example they used clips from movies and then do a twist on the true meaning of the movie. Has always been really cool and enjoyable.
